David Massey
David Massey, founder & CEO of Owdareech Productions was inspired to
become a producer by his older brother. David would regularly sneak
into his brother’s room and play his records while studying the
producer and writer credits on the album covers and labels. Hailing
from Shelby, North Carolina David was a rapper in high school and in
1988 he moved to Georgia and stopped rapping and became a producer
from that point on.
Upon moving to Georgia in ’88 he met the legendary rap artist Shy D,
then he attended the iconic Jack The Rapper Convention in the early
1990’s and met several movers & shakers in the music industry.
David started producing on the most rudimentary equipment in the form
of his niece’s Casio keyboard that was missing 5 keys. Through the
years he has acquired the Roland DR 670, Ensoniq ASR X, Reason 3,
Akai MPC 200XL, the Akai MPC studio and the MPC Renaissance which he
now uses.
Some of David’s musical influences are the legendary Soul artists
such as Earth, Wind & Fire, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and The
Detroit Spinners. Hip Hop icons such as D.J. Marley Marl, Mantronix,
Run–DMC, D.J. Premier and the RZA influenced him as well. A student
of all music genres he also enjoys Soft Rock artists like Duran
Duran, Ambrosia and Michael McDonald.
David has many productions by legendary artists to his credit, having
produced Daddy-O of Stetsasonic, Goodz Da Animal,Leaders of The New
School, Jim Jones, Herb McGruff,Greg Nice of Nice & Smooth, Sadat X
of Brand Nubian and Ke Turner.
David is a two time ATL PBA Beat Battle Champion, and he holds
multiple MVP’s with the undefeated ATL Track Monsters of the National
Beat Battle Association. His trademark is his rugged “Boom Bap” sound
with the use of obscure soulful samples that set him apart from his
contemporaries. He has artists and sync placements in the works and
is currently licensing sync tracks with more pending. His unique
production style combined with his decades in the industry ensure
that Owdareech Productions will be the most sought after for all
